I own a house built around 1915 with a wall safe. The past owner did not know the combination. Is there a way I can get into it without a locksmith?

Hi Bob,

I have a series of combinations for the "G" series round doors.    While I've provided these before, I've gotten "zero" feedback that they actually worked.   These sequences were NOT provided by the factory, but were collected by some "eminent" locksmiths in the 1940's.
While they indicate that you will have excellent results I provide no guarantees.

Your safe is a "G-4" series door.   The lock installed should be an Eagle three wheel, screw change series.

The first test combo in your series is:   38-26-2

Subtract two numbers from each number above, until you have 22 possible test combinations.

The dialing sequence that I have listed for this lock is:

3 times left to the first number, 38
2 times right to the second number, 26
1 time left to the third number, 2
turn right until the dial stops - pull door open

Note:   Left is counter clockwise, Right is clockwise.   DO NOT count the revolutions of the dial, count the individual number as it arrives at the 12 o'clock index mark.

If you still can't get it open, using the test combinations, then it may be time to contact a local safe company to have them check it out and/or open it for you.

Oh, and I never recommend using locksmiths for safe work.   In general they do not have the training, knowledge or tools to work on safes without causing excessive damage and/or charging exorbant fees.

Hope this helps,
