Locksmithing/safe combination

I forgot the combination to my Montgomery Ward 9041 serial number 76-95407, How do I reset it.

Hi Jodi,

While Montgomery Ward was the seller or distributor, chances are the safe was actually made by Meilink Safe Company - based on the serial number.

You have indicated that you have forgotten your combination.    The first question that I have would be:    "IS" the safe open, or locked closed????

If it is locked closed then you are NOT going to reset it.    The safe will have to be opened first to either recover the combination or reset the lock.

If the safe is locked open, and you simply need to recover the combination or reset it, to use the safe, then this is a fairly easy problem to solve - THOUGH, because the lock will require complete disassembly, resetting and reassembly,  I DO NOT recommend this as a DIY project for the same reason that I don't recommend using most locksmiths for safe work.    Making one little mistake WILL result in a VERY expensive lockout.

So if the safe is locked up, you will need to contact a local safe company to have their trained safe technician, open and repair the safe, recover and/or reset the combination.

If the safe is open, then similarly, I would recommend having the safe technician recover or reset the combination for you.

As this safe is not really that big and heavy, and assuming that it is NOT bolted down, you can save some money by taking the safe to the safe company to have the work done.

Check your yellow pages under "safes & vaults" for a local safe company.    If you don't have one nearby, let me know where you are located (zip code) and I'll see who I might know or recommend in your area.
It may be necessary to travel a way, if you don't have a competent close company.
