About Patrick Spreng
Expertise
Brooklyn and LA Dodgers, 1884 - 2008 [except appraisals: I DO NOT KNOW how much your autographed baseball (or other collectible) is worth].

Experience
Other than being a life-long Dodger fan I don't have any particular baseball credentials -- I have always lived in the southwest and have only been to Dodger Stadium once in my life.

Los Angeles Dodgers - Dodger

Expert: Patrick Spreng - 9/25/2005

Question
What does Dodger mean before it became a baseball
team name?

Answer
It means one who avoids or gets out of the way of something. In the 1890's there were so many trolley tracks in Brooklyn that people in the other parts of New York called the residents Trolley Dodgers. The name was attached to the team, and eventually shortened to just Dodgers.

Patrick
