Will attempt to answer any question on respiratory disease, but please don`t ask me to make a diagnosis. Although I`ve worked as a respiratory specialist nurse in the UK for 6 years, I know nothing about the health systems of other countries. I have a particular interest in asthma, COPD, spirometry, and tuberculosis.

Lung Disease - Destroyed lung and lung transplantation

Expert: Gary - 12/13/2005

Question
T.B attacked me in my infanthood and destroyed my left lung. Now my age is 36. I am in the country India. I suffer from sputum daily and appear very lean. Doctors here advise Pneumonectomy (surgery for removal of destroyed lung)  My questions are the following.

1.Whether lung transplantation can be recommended?

2. What is wise? lung transplantion or Pneumonectomy

3. What are your other advice  to me ?

Answer
Hi Danasegar

I'd go with what the specialists recommend. If that's a pneumonectomy then I'm sure they opted for that because it's in your best interests. I doubt that transplantation is an option because if it was, the specialists would have discussed this with you too.
All the best
Gary
