Will attempt to answer any question on respiratory disease, but please don`t ask me to make a diagnosis. Although I`ve worked as a respiratory specialist nurse in the UK for 6 years, I know nothing about the health systems of other countries. I have a particular interest in asthma, COPD, spirometry, and tuberculosis.

Lung Disease - back pain

Expert: Gary - 3/22/2005

Question
Hello: NO diagnosis requested...  just a general opinion. Hypothetically speakaing, might some form of lung distress cause pain in the back in the area of the lungs when walking....with NO difficulty breathing?
Many thanks////bob miller

Answer
Hi Bob

To be honest, I'm not sure. I would imagine, though, that if the lungs were the cause of the back pain there would be some lung symptoms too (such as shortness of breath). The lung conditions I can think of that might cause back pain would almost certainly cause lung symptoms too. I would suspect that upper back pain (with no respiratory symptoms) is most likely caused by something other than the lungs.
Not sure if this is helpful

Regards

Gary
