Will attempt to answer any question on respiratory disease, but please don`t ask me to make a diagnosis. Although I`ve worked as a respiratory specialist nurse in the UK for 6 years, I know nothing about the health systems of other countries. I have a particular interest in asthma, COPD, spirometry, and tuberculosis.

Lung Disease - smoking

Expert: Gary - 4/16/2005

Question
Hello,
I was recently a teenage smoker, who am now quiting I want to know are there anyways to reverse the effects smoking had on my body (I smoked short term like 2 months, and is was rare) and how long will it take?
thanks,
kenny

Answer
Hi Kenny

A 2 month smoking history is unlikely to have caused long-lasting damage. So, I doubt there is anything to reverse. It sounds to me as if you have made the decision to stop at the right time. You should be able to do it without any concerns about the effect it's had on your health. Don't start smoking again though because it's harfer to stop second time round too.

Well done

Gary
