AboutBrad Varvil Expertise I am happy to field questions regarding Lutheran theology and practice, and it's context
within the western catholic tradition. General questions on the Christian faith are also
welcome.
Experience I have served in lay ministry for over ten years, and am currently a pastor in a small, confessional Lutheran communion in the Evangelical Catholic tradition. I have worked with several Lutheran and non-Lutheran communions over the years, and have a particular fondness for catholic ecumenism.
Education/Credentials I have a BA in Religion and Philosophy from a small midwestern Lutheran college, and am completing an M.Div. at a small, independent, Lutheran seminary in the Pacific Northwest.
Question Hi Brad, my friend & I decided to make a YouTube video based on an idea I saw on the Alpha Project. Would you be so kind as to watch it & give some feedback? Maybe we'll redo it in the future after needed changes. Thanks & have a blessed day.
I'm not sure if it was just my connection, but I had a very hard time hearing the audio. I think you were trying to make St. Paul's point in Romans that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God-- but that salvation for all of us is found in Christ alone. In so far as you make this point, you are on solid Biblical ground.
I will refrain from commenting on issues of film, since that is not my field of expertise. However if you want to talk privately, please contact me by email (see below in post script.)
Grace and peace to you,
Rev. Brad
PS-- My apologies if I have not adequately answered your question. I'm certainly no professional when it comes to cinematography, nor the YouTube portal... nor the Alpha Project to which you refer. Please pardon my lack of knowledge on these points. I'm sure you have particular intentions for this film, including a target audience, but I don't have insight to your assumptions and goals regarding your project, and I would feel uncomfortable trying to guess what they are.
In terms of how to get the Christian Gospel out to folks, and which approaches might be better or worse suited for particular people groups (classically termed Homiletics, or the sphere of preaching) I'd be happy to offer my perspectives as a Lutheran pastor. If you would like to suggest some questions along these lines, please feel free, and I'll tackle them as best I can. If what you're really looking for is a candid critique of your short film, I'd rather give that off line from this forum, since it is formally outside the boundaries of Lutheran theology and practice.
Peace be with you-- here's my email address, which I thought showed up in the forum as contact information:
