Expert: Vijay Date: 5/9/2008 Subject: using SPDIF with an MPC2000XL
Question I ALWAYS TRANSFER MIDI DATA FROM MY MPC2000XL VIA MY FOCUSRITE
SAPHIRE LE INTERFACE INTO CU-BASE. CAN I DO THIS USING SPDIF INSTEAD? AS
I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS BETTER SOUND QUALITY THAT WAY? IF SO HOW CAN I
FIND OUT IF MY MPC2000XL WORKS WITH SPDIF? MANY THANKS!!!!!!!!!!PAUL
Answer Hi,
I am sorry to say that SPDIF cannot take MIDI data, because it's a digital audio format only. The quality of MIDI can never be improved because it's got nothing to do with MIDI or MIDI transport. The responsibility of the audio thus generated depends on the tone generator of the device. So even if you buy a cheap MIDI interface or a sky high MIDI interface, the quality of the MIDI signals/events will never change, as they are just electronic signals that are passed around.
