Abouttoby Expertise Was a MacOS sys/network Admin for about 5(5 Mac, 7 Windows) years...gears more towards linux and windows at this point, but I am confident I can help in various areas of Mac/Apple networking from localtalk to the newest standards. Deal with more enterprise integration of Macs on PC networks/domains. Can help with iPhone settings in any area(hopefully!)
Question Toby, I'm a new Mac user and finding it all a bit confusing. I have a new MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. I would like to print from my MacBook using my Canon MP620, which I've connected to my BT (UK here!) router via ethernet cable. My router is connected to my Windows Vista desktop machine, which happily prints via the router. Now, I can wirelessly connect from my Mac to my router (via Airport) to access the internet and I can 'Connect to Server' to see shared files on my Vista machine - and I can even see a folder called 'Canon_Memory' with nothing in it, but I cannot connect to, nor see, any printers. Using the 'Add Printer' method, I am unsure of the Protocol to use, whether it's 'IP' or 'Windows' connection and what the syntax is to be entered in the 'Address', 'Name' & 'Location' fields etc. I have been able to add my printer type in the 'Print Using' box (since the MP620 is listed there), but it just doesn't work! The router address is xxx.xxx.1.66 and the printer address is xxx.xxx.1.72 (I think!), but upon trying to print, the printer window tells me the Network is busy. I suspect the printer is not even being 'seen' by the Mac. Please help before I decide to throw the Mac in the bin! Thanks in advance and regards, Kenny
