Subject: Mac Laptop and DSL Modem connection issues

Question
QUESTION: I have a mac G4 PowerPC laptop running OS 10.3.9 w. 1 GB ram. I am constantly having connection issues with newly installed ZyXEL (P-660M-D1 model)DSL modems (whether wirelessly through a Belkin wireless router or directly with a Cat5 cable to modem). These modems are installed at 2 different cabins I rent and both have the same issue. The problem is that my connection is inconsistent/intermittent. I have been back and forth with my DSL service about the issue. Laptop PC's that I have tested using the connection, are not having issues. I even had the modems replaced, line filters replaced, phone lines checked, confirmed that my location is close to where their service comes from and even ran  download and upload speed tests (1200+ download and 400+ upload). I can only assume that it has to do with some issue between my Mac and this model of DSL modem. I have no problems anywhere else with this laptop connecting. Whether DSL or Broadband,whether wireless or direct. Have you  any other suggestions on what to check or ever heard of specific issues with this modem and Macs? I am at a loss as to why it works for a little while then doesn't.

ANSWER: Hi Rodger

The ZyXELhas an option "ReAuthentication Timer" in its settings. This is what's most likely kicking you off. It doesn't seem to affect PC's.

Try turning off the authentication and see if you can stay online.

QUESTION: Bob,
Would you know where or how I would access the modem to turn off the authentication? I'm not clear as how this is done.
Thanks,
Roger

If you have a user manual it should show you.

If you don't, try here for one;

I don't see the model listed that you say you have. Make sure you have the correct model number.
