Question QUESTION: Hello Bob Wood
I am having a problem setting up a network for File Sharing on my Mac and PC. I am also using a ethernet cable.
I have a iMac G3 PowerMac 266MHz that is orange.
Can you please help me ASAP.
I would like to remove some programs of my mac so i can install Mac OS X 10.3 because I don't have an external drive of any kind.
Thank You

ANSWER: Hi J-P
You'll need an Ethernet Cross Over cable rather than a straight Cat-5 cable, unless you're going to use a router.
Then you'll need software on the Mac to do this.
Dave is the most popular. You can download a free trial here;
I would suggest, rather than doing this, get an external USB drive to move the files to.
Then you can use it for a backup drive. Backups are the most important thing you can and should do.

QUESTION: oh and another thing i keep on getting an error when ever i use Internet explorer 5.1.7 on the mac. It either says web page not found or it gives me this page that says two links that lead to another page of errors and then it will give me more links to click on. after those links it gives me more that lead to some icons that are for the browser. So for me to put DAVE on my mac it is kind of hard because i don't have a usb flashdrive so i can transfer it to the mac. oh and the browser issue ive tried multiple websites and get that same problem even in firefox and a browser called icab.
can you please help me Bob Wood and thanks for your answer to my other question. Also what is a Ethernet Cross Over cable and what is the difference from a straight Cat-5 cable. I really don't want to have to buy a router because im a little bit low on cash so if there is an alternative to my problem please tell me.
Thank You

A crossover cable directly connects two network devices of the same type to each other over Ethernet. Ethernet crossover cables are commonly used when temporarily networking two devices in situations where a network router, switch or hub is not present.
I would try moving Internet Explorer files to the Desktop and then try it.
Open System Folder>Preferences
Scroll down to Explorer folder
You'll see files in that folder.
Move all those files out of there to a new folder on your Desktop, restart and try IE.
