Subject: Help with machining/fab bushings nylon 6 ?

Question
Dave,
First off thanks for any guidance you can offer.
I want to make suspension bushings for a project I have and need to keep things simple. The part I would like to make is for example, 2.5 inches in diameter and 3 inches long. Frankly trying to explain it would be a bit complicated even as its a simple design. I can post a picture and give you a chance to see what I am talking about. I want to use a small lathe and cut from solid rod stock of nylon but just don't know how to start the process. John          http://members.cox.net/stdotjohn/Rx7%20bushing%20pic.JPG

Answer
John,
After looking at the picture I would machine the part in 2 setups. First face off the end to square it up. Then turn the large dia, followed by the smaller dia. Then drill and ream the through hole to accept the steel sleeve. This will keep everything concentric. The turn the part around and face it to length.

I hope this helped.
Dave
