Subject: Purchasing a drill

Question
Hi Dave,
I would like to purchase a new drill for my husband.  His drill is very old and he is not sure what is the best drill to buy.
Could you recommend a good brand? Also, what else would I look for when purchasing a good drill?
Thank you,
Judy

Answer
Hi Judy,
I would start out at Sears for a Crafstman Drill or Home Depot for a Dewalt. In general buy a brand name tool(Craftsman,Dewalt,Makita,Black & Decker).
They have all been around for a while and have dependable products.
Make sure it has a 3/8 inch capacity chuck. I prefer a chuch with a key, most people today like a keyless chuck. A keyed chuck can be tightened much tighter for a better grip on the bits used.
Do you want a corded(more power) or cordless (more portable) drill ? If you buy cordless make sure to get a second battery so there is always a fresh battery to use.
Also with cordless drills more voltage means more power.
There are many choices and most home inprovement centers have staff that can help you make a decision.
Hope this helped.
Dave
