Question
hello can you help me reinstall osx 10 on my laptop it boots up and has a flashing os9 folder type icon. i have tried many different combinations of boot up command including resetting nvram;reset all option i was reinstalling and getting an install option and a screen that replied unable to find platfrom"-now i have no options except to go to another white screen that tells me to boot up or restart neither are helping.has my hard drive died i don't think so because it was reading the install disk as a option but was unable to find platform.

Answer
Steven,

When you put your system CD in your computer and you want to boot up from it, hold down the letter 'c' on the keyboard.  Sometimes it takes a while for the computer to juggle over to the CD drive.  As you give it power, have that key held down while you use your other hand to pop in the CD.

Once it finds the CD and begins to load, you can release the C.  From there you want to do a clean install of the system.  It sounds to me like you may have a corrupted system.  If you don't do a clean install you will be keeping the problems you have.

I hope this helps.

Debba
