Question
my mac locked up last night and being a former pc user I tried alt control delete and now everything is frozen solid.  Can't do a thing.  What do I do to get out of it?  It is a desk top and I'm sending this from my lap top.  Thanks

Answer
This is true for all computers
Assuming there is no cursor movement and no keyboard response.
Hold the Power button for seven to 10 seconds til it turns off.

Unplug or turn off all external devices.
Restart with SHIFT Kay down - this does minor repairs to the system - it is called SAFE Mode.

If you have internet access download AppleJack -- a repair utility.
Install it, read the instructions and restart with Command S keys down and run it.
