Macintosh OS/transferring settings

Question
Dave,

Thanks for your help.  I finally got my files and applications transferred using migration assistant but some of my email settings did not and I have been trying now for 3 days to get my gmail to work with thunderbird.  It keeps asking for my password and I have used very possible password that I have ever created but I still can't access my gmail.  I can use my browser and sign into gmail with not problems.  I found in my research that some apps require a different one time password in order to work.  I am out of ideas on what to do.  Ron

Answer
There is a Gmail setting that prevents some email clients from working - with a password error.

Google may block sign in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safer.

Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include:

The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or below
The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release
Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird
