Macromedia Freehand - Adding a Border/Contour/Stroke/Outline "Outside" of a Path?

Expert: Huma Riaz - 2/8/2005

Question
Huma:

I am working with vector logos that I sometimes need to add one (or two) Border outlines around the perimeter of the logo.

Is there a EFFECT or TOOL in Macromedia Freehand 10 that easily allows you to add a Contour/Border/Stroke/Outline around an Image/Path with the ability to specify both the "DIRECTION" (OUTSIDE of Path, INSIDE of Path, or CENTERED around the Path) and the "Thickness/Width"???

CorelDRAW has an effect called "Interactive Contour" that does this both easily and with great precision and was wondering if Freehand 10 has a similar capability.

If not, how can I accomplish creating Strokes "Outside" a Path in Freehand without such an Effect/Tool?

I look forward to your assistance.

Thanks,

Tom

Answer
Dear Tom,

Making a stroke in Freehand is possible like a flash, but not like Photoshop to specify its outside/inside direction. For this you will need to create another Stroke inside/outside around your object and specify its stroke as inside/outside border.

It's not a difficult task in Freehand.

. Make a clone copy ob object (Ctrl+Shift+D)
. Go to Modify > After Path > Inset Path. And put a value - for increasing + for decreasing.

If you want a simple stroke

go to Window > Inspectors > Stroke (Ctrl+Alt+L).
And apply a stroke as required
