Subject: Printing halftones from Macromedia FH9

Question
I am trying to print halftones (dot screen) from Macromedia FH9 to a Richo Aficio AP610N printer. This is a postscript printer, but when I specify my dot screen in FH, the printer just gives me gray. I used to use a Laserwriter Select 360 and never experienced any problems with halftones. When I go to Kinko's to print, I notice that they use a drop down where I specify Freehand prior to printing. How do I get this type of function with my printer?

Answer
i can't really help with this quetion because it is printer scecific not software specific.  freehand and halftones are very particular halftone screens even with a postscript driver.  i suggest you contact someone running this particular printer or the company itself and see if they even have a postscript driver that will give you proper halftoning , you may have to purchase a seperate print rip altogether, i have several clients who have run a variety of rips over the years, if the company who made you printer cant help i will confer with my most trusted screen printing client, but i do know his rip was pretty pricy(which is why you want to check with your print manufacturor first), one of the reasons i have never purchased a seperate print rip for my epson 3000,  i just don't make enough film over the course of a year to justify the cost since 90 percent of my clients already have the abiltiy to output and we work via e-mail.  but they are also very friendly wiith me and wil tell me what is getting the best results right now.

thanks, alyn
