Question
I get this when I try to burn a cd:  error code 0x80020022, says communication to disk drive failed, can't burn cd's.  I can't afford Mac help, as I live in 722.00 a month, and just spent all the money I had paying 1300 on my car, which now they say has to have 1500 more work done, of course which I have 0 dollars now.  Do you have any ideas of what to do to fix this problem.  I can reinstall 0SX 4 and lose everything, but I don't want to do it unless it's absolutely necessary, plus I don't know that it would solve the problem.  I'd hate to lose everything and then find that it didn't fix the problem anyway.

Thanks

Jim

Answer
Jim,
I haven't seen "error code 0x80020022" in some years, but after googling it just now I see it is still quite common.  The problem comes down to one of three things, each more expensive than the last.
1. A problem with the computer.  Sometimes a restart, or repairing permissions will correct this.
2. A problem with the DVD/cd media.  Sometimes getting a different brand of media corrects this.
3. A problem with your cd burner.    Sometimes getting a new burner corrects this.

If a restart does not fix the issue, rapier permissions using disk utility. DU is found in /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.  Once open, select the icon for your hard drive on e left side and click repair permissions.

You may have some luck requesting cd's by posting a wanted email to your local freecycle.org list.

Good luck!

Experience

I worked in IT for ten years with a specialty in Macintosh technologies and Project Management.
I've worked with the Macintosh Operating system and various machines since my first PowerMac 8500 running Mac OS 7.5.3 in 1996. I support my friends and family in keeping their Macs healthy and upgraded. Now I use a MacBook Pro for our home media network and we're pretty much down to iPads and iPhones for daily use.
Most important: I've also worked on PCs for a number of years with various flavors of Windows(95,98,NT4,2000,2000Server,2K3Server,SBS 2K3Server,Mil,XPHome,XPPro, Vista Business), but I've always used the Mac as my platform of preference.
