Macs/Apples/sleep schedule

QUESTION: My iMac (10.6) is set to wake at 5.30 am, which it has been doing just fine for years. Lately I've noticed that it wakes at 5.05am, then goes to sleep, then awakes at 5.30am. I've checked the energy saver sleep schedule and it shows 5.30am, as I have set it, for sleep. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? Thanks.

ANSWER: David,
Thanks for writing!  I'd change the energy saver settings to something like current time + two minutes for wakeup, then shut it down and see what happens.  If it works, change it back to 5:30....and see what happens again.
Good luck!

QUESTION: I'm gonna try your suggestion, but just out of curiosity, what is the reasoning behind your suggestion?

A lot like a circuit breaker or light switch, we have to occasionally make sure that whatever it is that we are testing can be changed to begin with.  It may be that the computer has somehow created a corrupt energy saver preference.  If we can prove that a change we make will have an affect on the computer's behavior, we can prove that at least it appears to be working.  If our change has no effect, or an unexpected effect, we look elsewhere for a problem.  Let me know!

I worked in IT for ten years with a specialty in Macintosh technologies and Project Management.
I've worked with the Macintosh Operating system and various machines since my first PowerMac 8500 running Mac OS 7.5.3 in 1996. I support my friends and family in keeping their Macs healthy and upgraded. Now I use a MacBook Pro for our home media network and we're pretty much down to iPads and iPhones for daily use.
Most important: I've also worked on PCs for a number of years with various flavors of Windows(95,98,NT4,2000,2000Server,2K3Server,SBS 2K3Server,Mil,XPHome,XPPro, Vista Business), but I've always used the Mac as my platform of preference.
