Question
Hi Angie,
We are arguing here over what percentage of Madonna's live performance is choregraphied (I mean HER moves). The girls say that every single step she'll take during a performance is thought through and through, while I maintain that while she certainly has some prepared bits, part of her performance is improvised (or at least not very tightly cued). What's your take, dear expert?

Answer
Hi,

I'm so sorry for my late reply!  I meant to answer this last week but forgot to, and allexperts.com didn't email me a reminder as it usually does.

Most of Madonna's live performances are choreographed beforehand, she's known to be a perfectionist when it comes to her shows and she doesn't like surprises, so some parts of the shows may seem a bit "randomized" or improvised, but it's pre-planned.  She engages a tour director who helps her plan the overall vision for the show and then individual choreographers to come up with the specific movements for certain songs.  In times where it may seem like she's improvising, it's actually all planned beforehand.  I wonder if you're thinking of a certain performance in specific where you thought it was improvised?  In earlier tours, she was very strict on her choreography and when certain movements happened, but I've noticed as she's gotten older, she's less specific.

I hope this has helped you.

Sincerely
Angie
