Question
Hi Tom, thanks for your reply.  I would have responded sooner but had trouble getting through on yhe Expert site.  We have decided to skip Vermont and just visit Maine. Leaning to The Inn at Ocean's Edge in Camden or either the Bluenose Inn or Bar Harbor Inn.  Any of your thoughts would be appreciated, thanks, Tommy.

Question -
Hi Tom, we're hoping to spend a week on the souther Maine Coast and a week in the Vermont mountains next summer. We are interested in upscale resorts and would appreciate any travel tips or advice you might provide, thanks, Tommy.

Answer -
Hi Tommy,

Unfortunately, I am not an expert on Southern Maine, except in the Bar Harbor area.  I am no longer conversant with accommodations there either, because I no longer live in the area.  May I suggest you contact the Chamber of Commerce for the particular area you wish to visit.  They can provide you with several choices, and if you get to talk with the right person, perhaps they will steer you to a nice place.

With respect to Vermont, I'd like to suggest that you try the Warren/Waitsfield area on Route 100 about 30 miles south of Montpelier.  While I know the area well from skiing there, I didn't get familiar with the better lodging options.  I can tell you there are a lot of very good restaurants in that area.  There is lots to do in the area, and excellent day trips from there to other places of interest within an hours ride.  If you climb Stark Mountain at the Mad River Glen ski area on a clear day, you can see several states from the top. Contact the Chamber of Commerce in Waitsfield for the better lodging options.

Since I don't know where you will be traveling from, and especially where in southern Maine you are going, I can't give you tips on routes to take etc.  If you give me that info, I would be glad to help.

Kindest regards,

Tom Webster

Answer
Hi Tommy,

I am not familiar with the Ocean's Edge or any places to stay in Camden.  Of the two places in Bar Harbor, my guess is that the Bar Harbor Inn is probably nicer and is very convenient to the downtown area where most of the restaurants and retail stores are located.

Please understand that while I know the area well, I have never stayed in any of these places as I lived within commuting distance for much of my life.  Thus my knowledge of accommodations is very limited at best.

Kindest regards,

Tom Webster
