Question Kenmore dryer goes through cycle to air dry but does not shut off. Timer motor has two drive gears on the back. The smaller one drives a fine toothed gear attached to the shaft which drives the 3 black cams that operate the switches. The innermost blue toothed wheel on the shaft driven by the larger nylon motor gear turns freely on the shaft and doesn't appear to be doing anything. Maybe there is a purpose for it on a different application? I guess the timer motor isn't strong enough to turn the shaft through the last part of the cycle and needs to be replaced, but I just wonder what the nylon gear turning the blue one is supposed to do if anything? The nylon gear is the only one which appears to be moving on the motor although I suppose the little brass one might be turning so slowly I haven't watched it long enough or maybe it has since quit altogether since I haven't tried it to see if it still goes through the cycle short of the end. Before wasting $ on a new timer motor aside from wanting to satisfy curiosity I'd like to know what the other motor gear and blue one on the camshaft do. I guess if I could wedge or glue the blue gear on the camshaft it might work, or maybe the speed it would turn the camshaft wouldn't be correct. Thanks.
