Subject: Kenmore dryer singing the clothes

Question
We have a Kenmore gas dryer, model # 417.90042990; serial # XD03104911.  For the past few months it has been leaving a burn mark on one article of clothing per load.  It happened intermittently at the beginning, but now is occuring almost every load.  A peice of clothing gets stuck between the 'frame' and the rotating drum, wedged into the space created by one of the three protruding 'shelves' in the drum.  Is this something that can be repaired?  Sears will charge us either $ 199 to send out a repairman, diagnose it and repair it (with a $500 credit towards a new dryer, if it can't be repaired), or $ 65 for just the service call and estimate for the job.  Do you have any insight or advice?  Thank you.

Answer
Sounds like you need to replace the rear dryer drum seal.  If mechanically inclined, you should be able to do this yourself with a little help. How mechanical are you?
