Major Appliances - Kitchenaid superba won't go into high speed spin cycle

Expert: Eric Campion - 11/4/2009

Question
Kitchenaid superba washer, Model kaws850jq4 seir. cm0907050. The unit will spin at the end of the rinse cycle( slow spin) to empty the water, but when it goes into regular spin(high speed spin) the motor switch jumps in and out with a clicking noise and the relays spark. The motor switch has a white arm that manually engages the high speed spin relays, its actuated by a centrifugal hub on the motor shaft  that the lever rides on, the hub doesn't seem to extend far enough to reach the lever, if I push the arm in with a screw driver and hold it there the spin cycle works fine. PS I checked the timer its okay. The machine has an extra spin cycle that works fine, but it's a low speed spin cycle. Do you think I need a new motor switch or motor or what do you think?
Thanks
Rex

Answer
Sure sounds like the motor centrifugal switch.  By what you stated, you hold the switch and it works. Part number is 8529896 and your cost is 74.95 in new or 36.00 in good quality used.  Shipping would be 5.95 if ordered through us.  Should you choose to order, follow this link to our website where you can fill out the secure order form to process your order.  https://www.affordableappliance.com/orderform.php  If you have any problems, concerns or need further information, feel free to reply to this email or for Parts Order Only, call 570-622-6441.  Keep in mind ordering through us helps continue this free on-line help available for you and many others.  Help those that help you.
