Question Hello, I have a Roper top load washer RAS723KQ0, I was having a problem where the unit wouldn't spin or barely spin. It was suggested to me that i replace the basket drive. So i took the whole thing apart (wow), ordered the part and replaced the drive. So when i went to test it the first time it worked great but as soon as i engaged the brake and went to try it again, I am back to the same thing. HELP!!! Any suggestions? Could you explain to me how the clutch and brake engage? I have spent approx 12 hrs working on this thing and cant figure it out.
Answer Problem is you replaced the more expensive part....the brake and basket drive rather than the slipping clutch. I am intimately involved with those machines and if looking on the top of the transmission you will see a silver dome. This is the clutch and when spinning the inner basket should be spinning also in the spin cycle. The transmission turns in both directions....in one direction to spin and the opposite to agitate. While agitating, the brake is engaged to stop the inner basket from spinning while agitating. If it did this, your clothing would wrap around the agitator.....The clutch is part number is 285785 and your cost is 32.95 + 5.95 shipping through us.
