Major Appliances/GE Dual Wave II Microwave System Model #JKP68G
1990 Model JKP68G,Serial GD903456G,GE Dual WaveII Microwave System
Just as the cooking time completed, the entire microwave control panel went dead as if there is no power. The conventional oven part still works. Since the entire unit which is 22 yrs old would have to be replaced which will be costly, can it be repaired or is it even worth repairing given the age? Thanks in advance for your help.
Entirely up to you as far as replacing. Since it is dead...normally a 20 amp ceramic fuse blew. Cause of this normally could have been a shorting door switch, diode, capacitor, high voltage transformer or a magnetron tube. Working on microwaves is dangerous if you are not familiar with electricity and knowing how to discharge a capacitor. I suggest calling in a reliable service company to take a look. Make sure they take it apart to really see what the problem is. Most all parts are still available for repair. Once knowing the exact cause, let us know and we will see what we can do to help locate your part.
Waiting to hear from you,
Eric and Ann Campion
