QUESTION: I bought a ge standard residential top freezer refrigerator new in 2004. Freezer continues to work well but yesterday the refrigerator compartment with just a little food inside stopped working. (Stopped keeping cool.) What can be the likely cause or causes? Can the problem be inexpensively repaired? Should this kitchen appliance be saved?

ANSWER: Open the freezer door and move food to see the entire rear inside panel.  Do you see any frost building up on this panel?  Please supply complete model number prior to responding.

QUESTION: Thanks for your speedy help. There is no REAR inside panel. However, one inch from the door on the interior left side of the freezer there is a sticker which states: MODEL STS22KBP
There is no present frost buildup. A week ago the freezer required defrosting due to buildup of one inch frost. The defrosting was done by unplugging the electric cord. When the electric cord was again plugged in both the freezer and refrigerator compartments worked well.

Model number is located inside the refrigerator section on a business card size or large label.  It will say model number and serial number on the ID tag.  I need this number to see your unit as you do.  Secondly....You said there was frost about one inch think.  And where was this?  Inside the freezer section on the rear inside panel?  Help us help you by supply the information requested.
