Question
QUESTION: Hello,

HotPoint Model # RB525G1VWH

I have an electric range that all of a sudden does not cook food properly.  I am told it turns off while baking.  Just replaced the Thermostat $100--but same behavior.  Since this is a basic model, I am at a loss as to what else to check.

ANSWER: Check for a bad connection at the bake element.  Do you see the bake element glowing bright orange when lit?

QUESTION: Hello again!

A few days ago I was able to verify the oven turning off--with the new thermostat.  Not sure what is tripping it.  Is the thermostat supposed to be installed in a certain way? i.e., rod not touching element or rack?

Could that cause the oven to shut off prematurely if the thermostat rod was touching metal?

Answer
The rod....I assume you are speaking of the capillary tube which connects to the thermostat itself.  For proper temperatures, I would not allow this capillary tub to touch anything.  It normally attaches to the inner cavity with small clips securing it in place.   Did you check for bad connection?  You unit is pretty simply and not much can make it short cycle.  If it is touching the bake element, it WILL short cycle because it is getting hot real quick.  Make adjustments and chack for bad connections and let me know what you find.
