Major Appliances/Ceramic cooktop
Five years ago we installed a new Frigidaire 4 burner ceramic electric cooktop. The unit has a "Hot Surface" indicator light in the center of the control knobs that glows orange while the burners are on and remained on until all cooking surfaces had safely cooled. Recently after normal use the indicator light remained on after all cooking surfaces had cooled.
Is it safe to continue to use the cooktop in this condition?? Is this an indication that something else is going on and the burners might come on without us being aware and cause a fire? Is this problem correctable at a reasonable cost or best to just replace it with a new unit?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
If you turn on any burner and look closely in the center as it lights up, you will see a rod. This is the rod/sensor that cycles the burner on and off as well as turns on the HOT SURFACE light when needed. Do you have a voltage meter and know how to use it? To make this repair, testing is involved. Let me know and I will instruct further....
Waiting to hear from you,
Eric and Ann Campion
