Major Appliances/Whirlpool Cabrio wtw5840bw top loading washer
QUESTION: The above washer was purchased in December of 2013. The problem is as follows. When a cycle is started the tub makes an attempt to rotate, but does not rotate. However rotating tub manually which has some resistance then rotates freely. Restarting cycle unit operates according to spec. This was first observed on Friday Jan 15, 2016. Unit was not used until this morning Jan 18, 2016. Same thing happened today and followed same procedure as above washer just completed second load. Washer squeaks occasionally squeaks in spin cycle.
ANSWER: tilt the unit back and see if there is any sign of leaking. How much resistance? You said the unit attempts to rotate, but does not... does the motor continue to run is there any noise... did any codes come up... did you unplug it and let it sit to reset?

QUESTION: The problem occurs when washer is first started and it is doing its sensing. The drum should rotate clockwise then counterclockwise. However the drum only turns a few degrees and then does nothing and the lid lock light stays on. The drum can be manually turned until it stops and then lets go and everything is fine. There are no codes displayed.t2
Did you tilt it back and check for any signs of leakage? There is a shift actuator involved here and if not operating properly or dirty, these symptoms will occur.... You must help us help you.... There is also a tech sheet... however you must be able to gain access to your machine. If not willing to do this, call in an appliance technician to do it for you..... Thanks, Eric & Ann
