About Carl Goodwin Expertise I am a self-employed Major Appliance Service Technician. I can answer MOST major appliance questions, and I will only tell you the CORRECT way to fix something (as I would in my customer's house). I do NOT "sugar-coat" my answers - you are told it up-front, and to the point. Some models are not available in Canada however (and vise-versa), and although "a dryer is a dryer" (for example), I am more familiar with North American models. Remember, I HAVEN'T seen EVERYTHING, and I can't do ANYTHING without the correct model number! :)
Experience I have been a Technician in the Major Appliance field since 1995, after I graduated from Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario, in which I took the Major Appliance Repair Technician Program. I have been self-employed since 1998.
Organizations I am a registered contractor with T.S.S.A. in Ontario. The T.S.S.A. regulate the fuels industry in Ontario, and BY LAW, you MUST be a registered contractor to work on ANY gas appliance in Ontario. I also belong to the Better Business Bureau of Windsor & Southwestern Ontario.
Education/Credentials I graduated from the Major Appliance Technician Servicing Program at Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario. I have achieved accreditation by the Government Of Ontario as a Major Appliance Service Technician. I continually attend update workshops, and I am an Authorized Servicer for Whirlpool Canada.
First off, thank you for being an Expert. It is a great service.
We bought a house almost two years ago and the stove/oven was here already. We are getting an F1 error showing, and my wife says it occasionaly changes to an F3, but I've never seen it. It now shows the clock, but the oven still doesn't heat. If you try to hit bake and a temp, the pre-heat light goes out almost immediately, and the oven doesn't heat. Broil is out too. Stove is fine. The whole unit is electric.
I called the manufacturer ((Maytag makes Magic Chef I found out by reading the tag) and they think it is the control board. Their parts people said it is actually the clock assembly, which I'm hoping contains the control board.
What I'm hoping for is a sense of:
1) Does this sound like the right part for the reported error and problems?
2) Is this something I could replace myself? The part is over $100, and I can't return it if I buy it.
Here's the numbers and assorted information:
Model #:CER3540AAA
Serial #:16839526WM
Purchase date given: July 27, 1999
Part number: 12001628
Many thanks, Carl!
Michael
Answer Micheal,
The model number you gave me does not come up at the Maytag tech site. However, the F1 code does mean a bad board. However, in some cases (I was trying to check for you), it could also mean that a part of the wiring harness is bad. I am doing one tomorrow actually for my own business. I am replacing both parts. I would be a little leery paying only $100 for that part. I buy my parts from Whirlpool directly (Whirlpool now owns Maytag), and that part number you gave me is $367.74. DO NOT USE 3RD PARTY COMPONENTS IN ANY MAYTAG APPLIANCE - USE ONLY GENUINE MAYTAG PARTS!!! :)
