Question -
I gave my old sears electric dryer to a family member,it was working just fine the last time I used it,six months ago, covered it up with a tarp in the garage until yesterday and loaded in pickup and delivered it to family member. We installed new electric cord, pushed start button and nothing happened.Opened door and light comes on ok.Pushed that switch in by hand and start switch at the same time and still nothing. What is going on as it worked great before I moved it.I also checked all wireing inside unit around motor and heater to see if anything came loose, all ok.Please help as I feel reaily bad about giving something broke to anybody.Thank you very much,Sid

Answer -
Sid,
I am leaning toward a problem with the new wiring. Is the breaker the correct breaker? It must be a double 30 amp. The new outlet is wired so that the red and black wires go to the outer blades on the outlet, and the white goes to the middle (but not the ground terminal - that is the bare copper wire). Make sure that the outlet is wired properly first, and if so, then I will go further if you let me know. I hope this helps! :)

Answer
Sid,
Unplug the dryer. Remove the back panel. On the blower tunnel, there should be a little white plastic thing, with 2 wires coming from it. That is the thermal fuse. Check for continuity - if nothing, then replace. Check the hi-limit t-stats on the heater box if the thermal fuse is ok. Check for continuity in the start switch. Make sure the door switch & connectors are ok. Failing all that, follow the wiring diagram, and eliminate everything in the circuit. First though, have somebody push the start switch , with the dryer plugged in, and see if there is 120V at the motor terminals (as per wiring diagram). If not, then the problem is NOT with the motor. If YES, the replace the motor. I can't help anymore unless I saw the machine. Good luck! :)

I am a self-employed Major Appliance Service Technician. I can answer MOST major appliance questions, and I will only tell you the CORRECT way to fix something (as I would in my customer's house). I do NOT "sugar-coat" my answers - you are told it up-front, and to the point. Some models are not available in Canada however (and vise-versa), and although "a dryer is a dryer" (for example), I am more familiar with North American models. Remember, I HAVEN'T seen EVERYTHING, and I can't do ANYTHING without the correct model number! :)

Experience

I have been a Technician in the Major Appliance field since 1995, after I graduated from Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario, in which I took the Major Appliance Repair Technician Program. I have been self-employed since 1998.

Organizations
I am a registered contractor with T.S.S.A. in Ontario. The T.S.S.A. regulate the fuels industry in Ontario, and BY LAW, you MUST be a registered contractor to work on ANY gas appliance in Ontario. I also belong to the Better Business Bureau of Windsor & Southwestern Ontario.

Education/Credentials
I graduated from the Major Appliance Technician Servicing Program at Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario. I have achieved accreditation by the Government Of Ontario as a Major Appliance Service Technician. I continually attend update workshops, and I am an Authorized Servicer for Whirlpool Canada.
