About Cyndi Smith
Expertise
I can answer all questions relating to general skin care regimens based on skin type and condition and make product and protocol recommendations. I can also answer most questions regarding chemical as well as organic peels, crystal free vs. traditional dermabrasions, and most questions about the many ways diet, sleep, situational conditions and genetics affect the skin. I cannot answer questions regarding make-up *artistry* as this is not my area of strong expertise. (questions re: make-up ingredients and reactions, etc. are fine though)

Experience
I began my career 15 years ago as a medical assistant in a multi-disciplinary office which included skin care. I later made the choice to switch to specifically skin care (almost 3 years ago) and studied for a solid year after receiving my esthetics license under a 23 year veteran in the field of skin care in an advanced esthetics office. I now have my own business as well as a position as director of esthetics at a medical facility.

Makeup & Skincare - Skin Purging and Juliet's

Expert: Cyndi Smith - 2/1/2008

Question
Hello,

I am a 21 year old black female with mild Acne and I recently purchased a product called Juliet's Clean and Smooth facial cleaners. The product seemed kind of shady since I could only get it on e-bay but the claim and feedback were convincing and positive so out of desperation, i bought and have been using for about a week now. Well my skin has broken out and I have a painful pimple where i never had one. I read about the skin going through a "purging process" when using a new skin care system. Is that true? I don't want to give up after a week but additional pimples aren't what I need when I'm trying to clear my skin. Have you heard of this product? I was recommenced Murad, which I was going to buy, but this product caught my attention because it's all natural. Please help. I just want clear skin. :(

Thanks,

Krystle

Answer
Hi Krystle.
I'm sorry you're going thru this.
It IS in fact true that the skin goes thru a purging process when you try something new. Whether this is the case with you and this particular product I honestly couldn't say. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with this product. You may want to give it a bit more time. If you'd like you can email me a list of ingredients and more details and I'd be happy to review and let you know if I see any red flags.
Another thing you may want to consider (not right now while your skin's having a bit of a tantrum - lol - but at a later date) if you want to continue to address skin clarity by means of purging impurities, occasionally visit your health food or vitamin store and do a gentle colon cleansing program. Also, products with Dandelion root are good for cleansing toxins and maintaining good kidney and liver health - also known to aid in clearing the skin.
You're on the right track in wanting to do natural things to take care of yourself. Now the trick is getting the right products for you specifically!
Good luck and feel free to contact me again. :)
