Question
I am a fair skin Multiracial Caribbean 54 yr old female. Eyes hazel, hair dark blond. (any makeup tips appreciated!)  My skin if normal, naturally moisturized by humid weather year-round. but I have hyperpigmentation on certain areas of the skin that I want to get rid of.  Would home M'dermabrasion help?  What products do I need if necessary?  Swim a lot and use 50 sunblock.  MD has prescribed Hydroquinone for one particular scar, but not for the hyr'pigmt.  Works slowly on scar and not at all on hpr'pimt.  What do you recommend. I have heard of Maderm.

My skin care daily is simple.  Wash w/Ivory soap at least 2X daily; 3 times a week exfoliate with St Ives Apricot Scrub. Rinse. Done. No moisturizer.
Make-up daily:none

Thnx...Cathy

Answer
Hi Cathy,

I certainly can help you.

What type of hyperpigmentation are we talking about here? Is this caused from the sun like freckles or age spots, are they post acne scars, etc..

Are you happy with your current skin care routine? Is it working for you?

I would advise against using what you're using currently. Using Ivory soap strips your skin of it's natural oils, and the ingredients it takes to actually make a bar of soap are harmful and pore clogging! When you strip your skin of it's natural oils without replacing them, your skin could result in an overproduction of oil, dehydration, etc..

The 'exfoliating beads' that are in the St. Ives Apricot Scrub can cause tiny, microscopic lesions on your skins surface because it's made with bits of fruit and nut shells.

Having said this, it's very possible you like your products and your skin care routine and how it makes your skin feel. If you are interested in a new skin care routine please let me know and I would be more than happy to help you.

About make up tips: I see you're not using make up daily - would you like some tips for everyday make up? Occasion make up? Let me know!

Sarah
