Makeup & Skincare - Liquid foundation

Expert: Caroline-Morgane Choisy-Rossi - 10/5/2009

Question
I am the grandmother of a seven year old girl who is in dance competitions.  She will be required to wear liquid foundation and I would like something that will not be damaging to her young skin.  I was thinking about Cargo since it was oil free but when reading reviews there are a lot of comments regarding the scent it has. Can you recommend something for us to look into that would not damage her young skin.  Thank You  Mary

Answer
Hello Mary,

Before I go into answering your request, let me express my admiration for the love and deep care you have for your granddaughter.
I wouldn't recommend to use Cargo foundation, even if it's oil-free, as this company uses chemicals which are not good for people. Given that your granddaughter is 7 years old, her skin is still thin and absorbs more than adult skin whatever is put on it. Parabens are preservatives which may be linked with breast cancer. Although research is still ongoing to find out whether other research groups confirm the original finding, I would strongly advise you to keep anything with parabens (methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-) away from your granddaughter (and yourself!). You can read more about it here:

As a practical solution, I can recommend Dr Hauschka foundation "translucent make-up"
Or Lavera "make-up fluid"

If you have a question about another product, just send me an email and I'll let you know whether it's good or not.

What is also crucial is to remove any make-up after the events. Rinse with water or floral water, then moisturize with something light and natural.

Good luck to your granddaughter for her dance competition!
