Question I fell on some rocks on my knee about 3 months ago and tore it up pretty bad. It's fine, I didn't get surgery, but the quarter sized scar that looks reddish, and purple in water, I'd like to get rid of. Does polysporin work? How can I lighten it's appearance and help it heal faster?
Answer Hello Mercedes,
I am sorry to answer your question only now as I didn't receive any email notification of your question. Polysporin is only an antibacterial ointment, so it will prevent infection, but not inflammation, which is giving this redness. To help your skin to heal and curb down the inflammation, you need to make sure that there is no infection going on (apply your usual antiseptic lotion). Then you need to moisturize the scar (once there is a crust) with skin healing creams and ointments that are going to quench the inflammation process and speed up the regeneration of the skin. Choose something which contains Shea butter, Wild Musk Rose oil, Calendula and/or arnica and use it until you are satisfied with the result. Be patient as sometimes it takes time for the skin to heal.
I hope you find this answer helpful.
Have a beautiful day,
Take good care
