I am 37 years old, I have a fair complexion. I do not get blemishes but I do get oily skin at times around the nose area. I don't yet have wrinkles, but do have the black circles under my eyes! What kind of makeup is best for this skin type? Is liquid foundation better or the powder that is a combo of foundation and powder? I don't like anything that looks cakey. I have larger pores on my nose and tried a foundation primer but have seen no difference in the appearance of my foundation and it does not last longer like it claims it will. I would like my skin to have a matte look. My nose seems to be the biggest issue. What kinds of foundation and other products should I be using? Also, how do you feel about those products that claim to last all day, like "color stay", etc? Cakiness seems to be a big problem for me!
Answer Hello Michelle~
Dark under eye circles are often caused by a deficiency of a vitamin. It may be vitamin K or vitamin C. I recommend you see your doctor about this first. There's a product called Vita-K Solution that's suppose to help diminish dark under eye circles. Meanwhile, a very good concealer is what you need while you and your doctor figure out if its being caused by a nutritional deficiency. Here are a couple that are known to be exceptional: Smashbox Camera Ready Concealer, Stila Cover Up Stick. Both typically priced under $20 US Foundation should be applied on top of concealer.
As for minimizing large pores. There are two approaches. You can use products that actually help to minimize pores such as: Dr. Brandt's Pores No More Pore Minimizer or Murad T-Zone Pore Refining Gel, to name a couple. Beyond that, the best way to conceal large pores is to use a matte make-up---good for you, since that's the look you like!---Too Faced Magic Wand Foundation, MAC Studio Sculpt and Revlon Color Stay are a few suggestions. These are liquid foundations. Applying foundation with a cosmetic sponge instead of your fingers will go along way to providing better coverage for your large pores.
The above foundations should not cake. While you might want to or need to lightly powder your nose a couple times throughout the day to matte down any shine that pops through, doing so more than that is what will cause a cakey look. Use a tissue if necessary to blot excess oil midday instead of touching up with powder.
Hope these suggestions are helpful. Good luck, Michelle.
Sincerely,
Linda Gearke
