Hi Linda. I'm a 12 year old girl and I've had acne since I was about 10. It's mostly under my chin, on my forehead, and on my cheeks. It doesn't appear as bad as it is because I have side bangs. I've used Proactiv and Acne Free but they didn't work. I've been asking my Mom to let me use Epiduo but she hasn't given me an answer. Do you know any product that could help me get rid of my acne?
Answer Hello Justice~
I'm not completely familiar with Epiduo, so I can't recommend it. However, you can visit epiduo.com and there's lots of good information there. I encourage you to share it with your mom, so you can both make an educated decision.
Start your acne treatment program with one of a couple of inexpensive medicated daily use cleansers you can find at a drugstore or Target, Walmart, etc., such as:
1) pHisoderm 4-Way Daily Acne Cleanser
An excellent 4-in-1 cleaner, toner and acne fighter. This product will clear up acne prone skin in a matter of weeks, reducing the incidence of breakouts and clogged pores. The gentle formula is good for all skin types and the alcohol free formula won't cause irritation or dryness.
2) Oxy 10 Maximum Strength Acne Wash
This maximum-strength acne wash attacks pimples immediately, and works to prevent future breakouts. It uses powerful anti-acne medications to get skin clean and keep it clear. An oil-free formula that penetrates deep into the pores and eliminates acne causing bacteria. Won't leave a residue or dry out your skin. Excellent for tough acne.
Meanwhle, I want to share this common response I give to teens wanting to clear up their breakouts. The main things that contribute to breakouts are diet, bacteria and pore-clogging make-up. Here are some common tips I offer anyone with breakouts....
1) Diet. Drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water daily to help keep your skin clear. A diet of fried foods, processed foods or one that's sugar-laden could also be a contributor.
2) Bacteria. Proper cleansing with an exfoliating cleanser twice daily (such as Olay Smooth Skin Exfoliating Scrub) can make a huge difference. Touching your face excessively (talking with your hand propping up your chin, for instance) will contribute to breakouts.
3) Make-up. Look for non-comedogenic make-up products - they are less likely to cause breakouts. Most brands of make-up are non-comedogenic, which means they won't clog your pores. Since your skin is prone to acne try to find products that are non-comdeogenic, oil-free (water-based), hypoallergenic (unlikely to cause an allergic reaction) and fragrance free.
Keep applying a drying agent, such as peroxide to a pimple daily/nightly to make it go away quickly. But, do not pick at it!
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Linda Gearke
