Question
In my 30's and have never really worn make-up.  My skin-care regimen... wait a minute, don't have one.  Am just now starting to experiment.

For someone who doesn't want to look like she has make-up on, mother of young children and perspires quite easily - any suggestions?  How do I pick foundation or concealer?  Are there any "If nothing else, do this.." suggestions?

Thanks

Answer
Hi, Jenifer, welcome to makeup! My first suggestion would be to go to your local department store, tell them that you want to start with "the basics" and how much you have to spend. Heres why: Generally, the more upscale the store, the better trained the staff. It is the Beauty Advisor's job to ADVISE you, and if you let her know what your expectations are, she will work to meet them. Also, find out about the store's return policy, in case the products don't work out. Here are some price ranges to expect for a regime of cleanser, moisturizer, base, eyes, cheeks, and lips in a Department store: Clinique, Orgins $100-$200. Estee Lauder, Prescriptives, Philosophy, Bobbi Brown $150-250. Lancome, Chanel, Clarins, Shiseido, Dior $200-300. It seems like alot to spend, but you get Full Service with it, all your questions answered, and products suited to your needs. That's only one option! Your drugstore has some great products, too! But there won't be anyone there to help you (that's why it's cheaper!). But I'm here for you, here are some essentials:1. A mild cleanser (Dove unscented, Cetaphil, Phisoderm). 2. An oil free moisturizer (won't make your face perspire so much) with SPF (if you spend any time outdoors) some good brands: Neutrogena, Aveeno, StIves, Olay. Read the boxes for more info. 3. Mascara is a MUST! Black is always my choice. My favorites are Maybelline Great Lash, L'Oreal Lash Architect or Voluminous. Waterproof is only a good choice if you're willing to remove it with oil before you wash your face. 4. A tinted lipbalm is a great way to brighten your face without a 'lipsicky' feel. Burt's Bees makes an excellent one, Almay, BonnieBell, Neutrogena, and even Blistex have nice ones, too. As far as foundation and blush, these if nothing else, should be chosen by a professional. At least until you are more confident with cosmetics. Good Luck! Sincerely, Betty
