Hi there, As a career i want to do a course or degree in video graphy or video shoots i have no idea what to do to get in this kind of job and where? i need your guidelines and help im in New Jersey US.thanks in advance. sonia

Hi Sonia, I cannot cover your question in its entirety as it could take several chapters to do so.  However, here is some simple advice to get you started.   Your first few experiences on a video shoot, hopefully as an assistant, should avoid pressure types of video shoots such as weddings or live event performances.  

Perhaps an environment where you are helping others and have time to learn in between scenes is ideal.  A classroom environment with a professor to guide you is a good way to start.  

Knowing how to run a camera but not having basic editing skills is problematical in the digital age. Learning how to edit first may actually help you learn what is important when it comes to handling a camera.

So two ways I can recommend are instructor run video classes, or learning how to edit first.  If the only class environment you can find is too costly, then invest in a low cost video camera and start using it, but beware that you will still need a way to edit your video footage.  

Even using a low cost digital still camera and then creating a digital still slide show is an excellent way to start learning about framing, exposure, and color correction, and even editing strategies.

Start with a very SHORT video project first, such as a one minute commercial, or very short instructional video, that requires you to through all the steps necessary to completing a video project.  If you know anybody who is already an editor, ask if they would be willing to mentor you on entry level video production and editing.
