Making Films & Videos - Video tape conversion to DVD

Question
Hello sir I have a sony HandyCAM DV model. This camcorder has got the option to shoot the video in an 16:9 format for the wide screen. When you play back this video on TV with camcorder you will have a good clarity, but the same when you convert into a soft copy via iLink cable and make a VCD or DVD, the clarity suffers and also the video which is recorded in a 16:9 format gets converted to 4:3 format only.

I want to ask you when i shoot in a 16:9 format how will i be able to convert the same into DVD and without the loss of Quality.

thanks
Deepak

Answer
Hello Deepak,

It is very important to not alter pixel sizes of the camera master when making DVD's. If you start with 16 x 9 pixels you must stay with 16 x 9 all the way through.  I'm assuming that VCD's will look softer than a DVD, so make sure also that you actually made a DVD and not a VCD.

If you can manage to keep the image as 16 x 9 all the way through, my belief is that the quality should look better than what you are currently getting.
