AboutMichelle Grech Expertise Can answer travel related questions about the beautiful islands of malta & gozo. where to go and what to do off the beaten track. can also answer diving related questions.
I am a college student studying abroad in Florence, Italy from September until mid December. My family is from Malta so I want to take advantage of the opportunity to travel to Malta while I'm in Italy. I only have my weekends available. When do you think would be the best time to go? Also, do you have any suggestions on where to go specifically in Malta for a short stay? Any information would be helpful.
Thank you,
Ashley
Answer Hi Ashley
the earlier you come after september the less chance of rainy days. september is still rather hot and sight seeing might be a bit of a bother. October on the other hand starts to cool down, still warm during the day and sea still warm enough to swim in. With regards to where to go, if you mean visiting I would definitely spend some time in Valletta - the capital, Mdina the old capital and a quick visit to the sister island of Gozo which might take up a whole day. Depends on what you want, culture or sea! A harbour cruise is also very relaxing and informative. I would recommend you base yourself in Sliema or St Julians so that you have access to the bars, restaurants, cinema etc in the evenings plus they are very central areas within reach of the whole island. A hired car might give you more access to places as the public transport is not the most efficient in the world.
Hope this helps.
Michelle
PS enjoy Florence, I love the city and the villages around it.
