Malta - spending money in Malta?

Expert: Michelle Grech - 2/16/2009

Question
Hi

My boyfirend and I are holidaying in Bugibba for 1 week from 13th May 2009, on a self catering basis. We are wondering how much money to take with us and wonder if you could advise us on this. Thank you

Answer
Hi Alison

That's a very difficult question to answer as it all depends what you intend to do! Malta is generally slightly cheaper than most european countries in terms of food and entrance to historical places. It also depends on whether you are planning to eat out much or cook at the apartment? You can budget for a minimum of Eur20 per person if eating at a restaurant. Transport by bus is very cheap about Eur0.50 per trip to most areas of the island. I would say if you budget for Eur50 per person per day you should be quite comfortable. I would suggest you have some credit on a credit card to fall back on for unforeseen expenses.
