Question
Hi, Michelle!

I am staying in Valletta for two weeks, and would like to
ask you about currency exchange.  In a post by another fellow, you mentioned that euros are usually accepted, but still recommended to get some maltese liri.  Is it still so?
[I know that the switch to euro will be next year].

I will arrive by plane.  Is the airport a good place to exchange money?

Also, is there a bus line between the airport and Balluta Bay? (I'll be staying there)

Another one: I would like to experience diving.  Any recommendation?

I'm also really curious about Mdina; I myself was raised
in a walled city, named Avila
(check this link
http://arantxa.ii.uam.es/~fpl06/images/1714-avila.jpg).
How far is Mdina from Valletta?

Grazzi!

Greetings from Spain,

pancho.

Answer
hi pancho
valletta and balluta bay are 2 different places on the island. valletta is the capital city and balluta bay is a town on the coast (where i live incidentally!). there will be direct busses from the airport to valletta where the main terminus is and then you can get a bus to anywhere in malta. a few pass by balluta bay and are very frequent.
get euros but you will have to exchange some to maltese liri for example for busses and other places that do not accept euros yet. the airport is a very good place. there is an hsbc agency right in the arrivals section which u can use whilst waiting for your luggage.
there is a diveschool at balluta bay called neptunes diving school and various others along the coast towards sliema. diveshack, have a spanish speaking instructor if i'm not mistaken. their no. is 21338558 and they can pick you up from your hotel.
to get to mdina  from balluta bay you will need to get a bus to valletta and then one to mdina or if from valletta one direct bus. i am still confused as to where you will be staying valletta or balluta bay! it can take between half and hour and an hour. you should not miss going there as it is a beautiful place. it has recently been refurbished.
you will enjoy it at balluta bay. very central and beautiful place.
