Question Hi,
Due to Ryanair flying to Malta my wife and I have decided to try a visit in February. Only a few days sadlt. 5th to 7th Feb. Probably going to be cold but let's hope for the best.
The Victoria Hotel in Sliema looks good. Any views on that place?
On the 6th we would like to try to get around Malta using local buses etc. can a day pass be bought. Do you think that is a good idea or should we consider hiring a car.( a small car).
Many many years ago I visited Malta, about 1972 , I think. I can recall eating a lovely steak at a restaurant called Whispers in Mosta. rumour had it that Rolf Harris owned it. Is it still there?
We will be arriving at Luqa about 9pm. Any idea of the cost of a taxi to Sliema?
regards, Peter
Answer Hi Peter
I've always heard good things about this hotel. its in a good spot about 5 mins walk from the sea front and very professionally run. its also next door to a hospital...which is always a good thing!!
I don't think you'll need any passes for one day. each trip costs Lm0.20c so i doubt it can be any cheaper than that. how many trips can one do in a day...10? that is max of Lm2-. To be honest, if i only had one day available i'd hire a car. you can get around so much better and with a bit of planning see the high lights of the island. at that time of year you'll be able to find a car for very little money something Like Lm8 i would say.
I remember the Whisper restaurant. it is now called Ta' Marija and is one of the few restaurants that specialises in Maltese dishes. I have never been there personally but would love to try it out. My boss speaks very highy of it. It is still owned by the same people who owned Whisper but its def not Rolf Harris!
A taxi from airport to sliema would cost you around Lm8. I would check with the hotel if they offer this service as sometimes it is cheaper. or better still why not hire a car, have it dropped off at the airport and keep if for the duration of the holiday. this might be cheaper when u take into consideration how much 2 taxi rides will cost you!
I hope you'll enjoy your little stay, February can be a bit chilli so do get your jackets and umbrellas! its not always sunny malta unfortunately!
