port    system ,  which are among the current generic goals for advanced information technology  within
organizations.
Organizations are looking for ways to respond to competitive pressures and
new performance levels  by redesigning and continuously improvingtheir production and
operational processes.
Organizations are also looking into IT as a strategy for establishing,
sustaining and expanding presence in electronic markets for their goods and services.

Such endeavors must therefore address complex organizational processes that entail tens, hun-
dreds, or even thousands of organizational participants, as well as support the integration of
a heterogeneous collections of both legacy and emerging ITs.
