Managing a Business - client referral fee

Expert: Leo Lingham - 6/23/2009

Question
Hello,

I run a web design business.  I do freelance work for other advertising agencies.  When they refer someone's contact information to me, what obligation do I have to them for the client referral?  This company gave me the name of a person in need of website work.  They are now asking for 25% payment for all future work I do for this client.

Thanks,
Peter

Answer
PETER,
THE  NORMAL   CLIENT  REFERRAL  FEE   VARIES  IN  THE  RANGE
[ 15 ---20]  %  DEPENDING ON THE  NATURE  OF  THE  BUSINESS.

IF  YOU  ARE  RUNNING  SHORT OF  WORK,
YOU  AGREE  TO  A  MAXIMUM   OF   20%.
============================================
IN  SOME  BUSINESSES,
-for  all  the  businesses  during  the first  year , payment  is  20%
-for  all  the  businesses  during  the second   year , payment  is  17.5%
-for  all  the  businesses  during  the third  year  and  onwards  , payment  is  15%

====================================================================================
IF  THE  FUTURE  BUSINESS  IS  BRIGHT,

THEN  NEGOTIATE  THE  BEST  DEAL,

SO   THERE  IS  A  CONTINUOUS  FLOW  OF   WORK

AND  INCOME.

GOOD  LUCK

REGARDS
LEO LINGHAM
