Question
Hey,

I am currently in college and hoping to get MBA completed in next 3 years but i am going to do bachelor's first. I am yet to choose one from Accounting/Management or Finance. I really want to go management because i think i am good with managing businesses. I am not sure how my career is going to shape if i decide to bachelor's in management and then MBA. Like, what kind of job i will be able to start with and how long will it take me to a position of managing a big business.

Lets suppose that i have MBA and i wanna apply for job. What kind of job should i look for? provided that i have no experience.

Thanks a lot,
Arun

Answer
Hi Arun,

I will give you a quick answer but suggest you consider submitting your question to someone with guidance experience.

I am afraid that your expectations are a bit off. While I fully support someone getting an MBA (I have one myself), no degree is going to get you a job and certainly not a senior level one.

What matters is what you have done and by that I mean - jobs you have succeeded at performing. After my first job, no one ever asked me if I even went to college.

My advice is to get a job, work extremely hard, rack up success after success and begin competing with the 100's of thousands of people who graduate every year with an MBA. People will judge you by what you have accomplished - not by what degree you have.

Bottom line, becoming an executive is 99.5% work experience and <0.05% education.

Remember - Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft never graduated college.

Good luck, so I can't help.

Don
