I am a 25 year old boy coming from India and studying in Germany. My course is half in German and half in English. I am good in languages and had to study something to do with Communications. I have my previous bachelors degree in Biology and it was hard for me to get in a field of communication for my masters. I managed to get a masters course in intercultural communication. On the basis of my strong foundation in German language. Now that I have my admission and I am in my second semester I somehow cant bring myself to study, not that I don't find my field interesting but I think it has to do with some mental state. I come to the table to study but end up checking my mails or surfing on the net. It just doesn't work no matter what I do. I feel that something else is more interesting and I get distracted. Now that I have only 14 days left for my exams and have 2 presentations and 2 exams I still feel overloaded with work and then too cant pull myself to studying. I am also getting depressed and hang out with a Chinese friend with whom I manage to study at least a little. But i cant expect her to accompany me everyday, right? I get bored in my apartment sitting alone and letting my mind get deserted with different ideas. I am even getting lazy and now really want to find some solution to my problem.
I would be gratified to get your expert advise which would help me study and be successful in my life and career.
Thanks for your attention.
Love Goldy.
Answer Hi, thanks for writing. It sounds like you are having some problems with distraction, maintaining interest, and fatigue, which everyone has problems with occasionally. Let me give a few suggestions: 1. schedule a set time or times each day to study. Set an alarm on your watch to start and stop, if you need to. It is probably best to use a number of short times each day rather than one long time, so you can maintain interest. 2. make a list of what you want to accomplish each time, and check it off as you do each item. 3. study in a location away from any distractions, such as your computer, TV, windows, etc. 4. give yourself a reward, such as email time, a favorite food, etc. when you complete each time. 5. space out your studies and don't cram anything at the last minute before a deadline. Hope this helps some, good luck, and write anytime.
